By The Bay

Public spaces are often overlooked because of their familiarity. We pass through them daily, rarely noticing how they change or how the people within them shape their character over time. Yet these places quietly become stages for countless human experiences—moments of rest, conversation, celebration, solitude, and routine. By the Bay is an ongoing documentary photography project centered on the Baywalk of Cavite City. Through repeated visits and regular walks, the project seeks to observe and record the everyday life that unfolds along the bay. Rather than focusing on major events or extraordinary moments, the work is drawn to ordinary scenes that often go unnoticed: families spending time together, individuals watching the water, vendors at work, and the changing rhythms of the public space throughout the day. The project is rooted in the belief that familiarity deserves attention. By returning to the same place over time, the photographs aim to build a visual record of a landscape that is both personal and shared. As the project continues, it becomes not only a documentation of the bay itself, but also an exploration of how communities interact with public spaces and how those spaces become woven into everyday life. Through long-term observation, By the Bay seeks to preserve small moments that might otherwise be forgotten, creating a portrait of a place defined not by landmarks or events, but by the people who pass through it each day.
